Exmouth... Where the river Exe meets the sea, this seaside resort is a good base to explore this part of the coast and its inland towns and villages and only ten miles from Exeter and is one of few seaside towns to have a rail link with its own train station.

Road: Only 10 miles from the Motorway. M5 at junction 30 at Exeter, turn south on A376 (the Exmouth Road at the 1st roundabout after the Motorway by Clyst St Mary) to Clyst St. George and fork left by Lympstone to Exmouth

or from Exeter City centre (River side) take the Topsham Road south for 3 km (2 miles) through the Countess Wear roundabout and 3 km (2 miles) to Topsham and continue by Lympstone to Exmouth

Train links to Exmouth: Mainline from (example Paddington Station in London) to Exeter St David's or Exeter Central. Local service to Exmouth along the river with great views. (25 minute journey) and the rest of the U.K. This is an important link for Exmouth and villages to Exeter, please support it, it also saves trying to park in Exeter on a day trip from Exmouth, fantastic views of the Exe Estuary Great views at sunset..
Avocet Train Line Train to Exmouth, River Exe views. The Avocet Line, The name derives from the bird which overwinters on the internationally-important Exe Estuary site.

There is a very good rail network from which you can reach Exeter and then the local link to Exmouth. Trains from London Paddington main line station are fast and frequent over the 2 routes to Exeter (One via Bristol and the beautiful Roman town of Bath, but you don't have to change). The other route has also much lovely scenery. Look out for the White horse cut into the rolling hills. You can connect with a network of local and cross-country routes, many of which are particularly scenic and an excellent way to see more of the countryside.

From Heathrow Airport it is an easy route with the Motorway M4 via to near Bristol where you change Motorways to the M5 all the way to nearby Exeter. From the Airport is a half hour coach service to Reading, west of London ( it saves having to go into London). As entering the coach you pay, cash or Credit cards. You can make it very easy and get one ticket for the coach AND the train all the way to Exmouth. For foreign visitors, if you plan to make several rail journeys, ask about the BritRail Pass at British Rail Offices or travel agents before you leave, since it is not available in Britain. Otherwise tickets can be bought at any station where you can ask about the many reduced price ticket deals. Gatwick Airport has a 30 min. journey to London Victoria Station, where you can get a Underground train (known as the Tube) to Paddington Station where the Trains to Exeter start.

BY COACH/BUS By Bus
The National Express coach system covers most of the U.K. and has a main interchange coach station at Exeter There is a frequent local bus service between Exeter and Exmouth. Click here for National Express timetables. Britain's long-distance coach network reaches all Mayor towns and is an economical way to travel. Details of services, fare and the discount BritExpress Card from your nearest BTA office.

You can make it very easy and get one ticket for the coach AND the train all the way to Exmouth. There is a supplement for either journey made on a FRIDAY. When going back you can wait in the special Railair link Waiting room at Reading Station, complete with flight news monitor. Gatwick Airport has also a coach service.

The promenade is two miles long and still has old favourites such as swing boats and crazy golf. The walk from the Marina to Orcombe Point is level and has wonderful views towards.
