Exmouth's
Town crier Garth (Tregarthen) Gibson
who
sadly died on Wednesday evening 20 May 2009, aged
83. He is very sadly missed.
Garth, a much loved and very well known in the town
and at meetings, events and spend hours and hours
of hard hard for the town of Exmouth in all his pomp
and regalia.
He
was inaugurated as Town Crier in 2000, won the Devon
County Championships of Town Criers in 2005. Garth
also won the award Town Crier award in Topsham in
2006.

Garth
also wrote two books 'Exmouth her Age of Elegance'
and 'Oh Yez, Oh Yez , Oh Yez' the story of a Town
Crier.

The
Funeral - Town Crier
The
funeral of Garth Gibson who died on 20th May took
place on Friday 12th June at 2pm at Holy Trinity Church,
Exmouth. This was preceded by the funeral cortege
passing through the town on the following route starting
at just after 1pm:-
Rolle
Street, Right into Salterton Road, Right along Esplanade
past Pavilion and Clock Tower, Right into Alexandra
Terrace, Past Town Hall, Along left side of Strand,
Right into Rolle Street, Right into drive up to Holy
Trinity Church
Many
payed their last respects by lining the route. Their
was a PA system and screen to the side of the church
so that those attending could see the service as the
church was too full to accomodate everyone.
Garth is greatly missed
